Nurses migration and registration
ANMAC skills assessment assistance
A skills assessment is how a nurse's qualifications and experience are assessed for skilled migration to Australia. We help you understand where it fits and prepare a careful application.
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) is the assessing authority for nurses and midwives applying for certain skilled migration visas. Its skills assessment looks at your qualifications, and in some pathways your experience and English, against Australian standards for migration purposes.
A positive skills assessment is not registration and it is not a visa. Registration (through Ahpra and the NMBA) is what allows you to practise. The visa is decided by the Department of Home Affairs. ANMAC offers different assessment types, and which one applies depends on things like whether you already hold registration in Australia or New Zealand.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need Ahpra registration before ANMAC?
It depends on the assessment type and where you are registered now. ANMAC changes its criteria from time to time, so we check the current rules for your situation.
How long is an ANMAC outcome valid?
Outcomes have a validity period set by ANMAC. Check the current period on ANMAC's website before planning your visa timing.
Is a positive assessment a job offer or a visa?
No. It is one document used in some skilled visa applications. Registration and the visa are separate.
